3rd January 2012 Two years in the making, Redemption was recorded in a tiny, 1000 year old church in rural England and re-mastered at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London. The album also enjoys a first time collaboration between P-Theory and the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame member and founding member of the original Funkadelic - Billy "Bass" Nelson. P-Theory is a six piece band of international musicians who's modern take on funk and classic rock takes influence from Hendrix, Bob Marley & the Wailers, The Rolling Stones, Curtis Mayfield and their most closely associated influence - Parliament Funkadelic (P-Funk). Redemption is the third P-Theory album to feature funk legend Kevin Goins on lead vocals. Kevin (former front man of the super influential funk units Quazar, General Kane and Space Cadets - brother of the legendary Glenn Goins from Parliament Funkadelic) has been an integral part of P-Theory since they hooked up in 2006. Dedicated to the pursuit of using the best elements of late 60’s and early 70’s classic recordings and putting them in a modern context, P-Theory’s groove takes you to place where your head immediately starts to nod - NASTY, REAL, LOW DOWN, DIRTY BLUES FUNK WITH A SPIRITUAL MESSAGE. P-Theory's mission is to create some new and innovative music that draws upon the collective influence and experience of the classic recordings of all time, and work with the innovators on the original recordings, in order to test the theory that all great recordings are based on great performances and no computer will ever replace a musician wearing his heart on his sleeve and expressing it via his instrument. A European tour for spring 2012, along with a summer US tour will be announced shortly on the website. Redemption showcase's the bands ability to merge the vibe of the Stones with the grooves from P-Funk and lyrics of hope and faith. The album features the incredible talents of Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame Member, and founding member of the original Funkadelic - Billy "Bass" Nelson along with the incredible vocals of front man Kevin Goins (brother of P-Funk legend Glenn Goins). Building on the strengths of their first two albums "From The Hood To The Wood" and it's follow up "Chocolate Sock", "Redemption" sees P-Theory focus on the creativity of the recording process. Alex Campbell explains "The first two albums were both written and recorded live within a week, we wanted to take our time this time and focus on the arrangements and what we could do with them. We spent a long time with overdubs and studio effects which we never had the time or luxury to do in the past." Alex continues "We also wanted to focus on stamping our own identity on this new album. Our first two had brought us a lot of recognition for capturing the old school vibe of classic recordings and we knew we had that bit nailed. What we needed to do was to use what we had achieved to bring that vibe to something that could sit comfortably in the modern marketplace. So we focused much more on the songs and getting the hooks to leap out and introduce a more modern R&B vocal over the classic grooves. So we worked with Chanelle closely on the arrangements as she has a fantastic ear for that stuff." The album is a real progression on the band's previous releases something which Alex doesn't see changing any time soon. Alex explains "We are always evolving and that's what keeps us hungry. We love the idea of trying new things and bringing some innovation to the classic building blocks that are our foundations. We have got to the level where we are working with some absolute legends within the music industry, it would be very foolish of us to not use that opportunity to create something completely new whilst using the timeless nature of our sounds and licks." The album is currently being mastered at the legendary Abbey Road studios in London, watch this space for more news in the coming weeks.
